I'm a researcher in corpus linguistics, lexical semantics, and variation and change in English, and I work on the Linguistic DNA project at the University of Sheffield. The project works with extremely large data sets (hundreds of thousands of digitised Early Modern English texts) and combines computational methods with close reading to model semantic and conceptual change. My doctoral research at University College London analysed lexical semantic variation in the relatively small, carefully curated data of the International Corpus of English. My work has focused on methodology in corpus linguistics and semantics, and this informs my experience with big and small data.
